Young Entrepreneurs

By working at the Shark Shoppe, students learn qualities of entrepreneurship and the importance of volunteering. Workers are required to arrive on time for their shifts, count money, and interact with customers from all different grades. They must also be innovative, and be able to suggest new ideas and have a strong positive attitude. Volunteering not only teaches students the fundamentals of starting their own business, but they also gain a variety of useful skills that will boost their success. Here is a list of skills that are gained:
  • Mathematical Skills
  • Punctuality
  • Social Skills
  • Supply and Demand
  • Recycling

Every Tuesday and Thursday, students from the MOCI (Moderate Cognitive Impairment) recycling committee come to collect pop cans, bottles, and boxes from the Shark Shoppe to recycle for profit and educational purposes. Some of the paper picked up is even converted to be used as recycling paper. These help the MOCI students learn responsibility and living skills. Half of the money goes to the school, while other half goes to reward the students with incentives and field trips.
